Barbara Barnes
Barbara is a Canadian actor and poet who lives in London, England as well as spending time in Canada. She works in theatre, film and TV and extensively in as a voice artist in radio dramas, audiobooks, and documentary narration.
Barbara holds an MA in Writing Poetry from the Poetry School London and Newcastle University. Her first collection ‘Hound Mouth’ was published by Live Canon in the UK. Poems have appeared in Poetry London, Ambit, Butcher’s Dog, The Brixton Review of Books, The Interpreter’s House, Black Iris, Under the Radar, Arc Poetry and others.
Her time on Halls Island will be spend working on her second collection which focuses on themes of separation and emigration, using her grandfather’s journey from the Union Workhouse, York to Canada as an initial impetus for the poems.
Barbara’s residency is supported by a Society of Authors’ Foundation Grant. She’s so grateful for this incredible opportunity to spend time writing in a part of Canada which is close to her heart.
