2020 Applications to the Halls Island Artist Residency will open November 1, 2019 and close January 15, 2020 at 11:00 pm.

Residencies will be ten days long, beginning on a Monday and ending on the next Friday. A specific calendar of dates will accompany the application form.

We invite applications from artists who are looking for a secluded place in which to reflect and refine their artistic discipline(s). Applicants must demonstrate a focus on their art form and be comfortable with rustic, off-grid living conditions. Successful artists are required to provide their own transportation to and from the landing on Koshlong Lake, their own food for ten days, and other supplies noted on the Visitor’s Guide. More detailed information will provided to the successful applicants.

Individuals who engage in all forms of artistic expression are eligible to apply. Please note that limited solar power and absence of WiFi limits the type of arts activities that Halls Island can support.

As you will have noted from this website, this is a water access only residency. Getting to Halls Island requires climbing in and out of a boat, as well as up and down stairs from the dock to the living quarters. This setting may not be accessible for those with mobility issues. Please contact us with any questions regarding accessibility.

The selection committee will review all applications, extending invitations to selected artists. Halls Island Artist Residency will contact applicants who have been chosen for review and follow-up. Once each residency date is filled, unsuccessful applicants will be informed. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

The residency is intended to support the artist alone but feel free to query us with any special circumstances or requests. We'll do our best to accommodate, if possible. If you hope to be in residence with another compatible artist, each artist should submit a separate application with a note advising of the intended partner artist.

New for the 2020 season: One ten day residency will be set aside for a group of up to four artists who work collaboratively.

A $10.00 administration fee is required to complete your application. This fee is non-refundable and is used to help with our administrative costs. Please contact Halls Island Artist Residency for a possible waiver if this fee prevents you from applying.

Note: If you are experiencing difficulty using this form on a phone or iPad, please try again on a computer. We are attempting to resolve this issue.
