Halls Island Artist Residency

MEDIA RELEASE: For immediate release

July 17, 2021

The Halls Island Artist Residency is pleased to have been awarded a one-time grant from TD Bank's Ready Challenge Fund to help support the residency as we return to full strength post-COVID. Many artists have suffered more than a year of hardship due to pandemic restrictions and cancellations. The grant will fund a stipend for each of this year’s 13 attending artists, as well as artists attending next summer’s residency. While there is no charge for artists to attend the residency, this funding will help them with the cost of transportation and food.

The committee is especially pleased the TD Bank’s Ready Challenge Fund grant will also help the residency move forward with our commitment to offer a scholarship in 2022 for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) artists. Details will be announced later this fall.

The volunteer committee is excited to offer these new financial supports to attending artists.  The management committee had set goals to offer a scholarship and to financially offset expenses for our artists - TD Bank’s Ready Challenge Fund has allowed us to meet these goals.

Ruth Walker, co-chair of Halls Island Artist Residency Management Committee states “The support of TD Bank is a true validation of our founding goal: to provide a space for artists to focus on their art form and find the inspiration that Halls Island and the Highlands offer.”

We are grateful for this funding which will help Halls Island Artist Residency enhance our growth in the landscape of Haliburton County’s arts opportunities.

Halls Island Artist Residency is located on Koshlong Lake in Haliburton County and offers off-grid accommodation to Canadian and international artists of all genres. A member of Haliburton County Community Cooperative, the residency is operated by a volunteer Management Committee and is made possible through the generosity of a Koshlong Lake cottage family. News of the 2022 application process will be released later this summer and available on our website: www.hallsisland.ca
